(Archive) Take Action: Support Community Land Trusts Today!

Tell NYC to Fund Community Land Trusts

As the Mayor and City Council finalize next year’s budget–expected to be the largest in NYC’s history–we are calling for strong support for community land trusts (CLTs). Join us in calling for full funding of the $1.5 million Citywide Community Land Trust Initiative!

We need CLTs to address the city’s housing crisis, combat displacement in the wake of COVID-19, and advance a just recovery in Black, brown, and immigrant communities.

The budget could be announced any day–take action now!

1. Email NYC Council Speaker Corey Johnson (speakerjohnson@council.nyc.gov) and urge him to fully fund the $1.5 million for the Community Land Trust Initiative! Also email your Council Members (find yours here) with the same message!

2. Tweet at @NYCSpeakerCoJo and @NYCMayor. Urge them to fully fund the $1.5 million Citywide Community Land Trust Initiative–and use the #CLTsforNYC hashtag.

3. Join us for an in-person rally on Tuesday, June 29, at 10am, at City Hall Park! CLT organizers and leaders will call for a just budget that includes strong city support for CLTs.

Throughout the pandemic, CLTs across NYC have kept their work going strong–mobilizing mutual aid efforts, preventing evictions, acquiring properties, developing grassroots leaders, and much more.

Full funding will support CLTs as they bring more land and housing under community control–for permanently-affordable housing, commercial and open spaces, community-owned renewable energy, and other needs.

Thank you for supporting #CLTsforNYC!
