Statement on Amazon’s HQ2 Withdrawal

Amazon’s decision to withdraw its proposed headquarters from Queens is a huge win for New Yorkers and New York communities, and should mark a dramatic turning point in New York’s approach to economic development. Instead of top-down decision-making and massive giveaways to mega-corporations like Amazon, our city and state should invest in economic development led by and for people and communities of color, immigrants, and women – who are disproportionately harmed by our current unfair, extractive economy. We stand in solidarity with the many New Yorkers and community groups that organized to secure this landmark victory, and we will continue to join them in fighting for a just economy that works for all.
