Tenant Advocacy Day Tomorrow
Early tomorrow morning, June 9th, thousands of New Yorkers will be traveling to Albany for Tenant Advocacy Day.
Why? New York’s rent regulation laws are set to expire on June 15th. If these laws are not renewed, 1 million households currently protected by these laws could be threatened with eviction. If they are not substantially strengthened, we will continue to see the erosion of affordable housing in our city. The New York State Assembly has already approved legislation to extend and strengthen rent protections. Tenants and allies are now calling on the Senate and Governor Cuomo to follow suit. Last week, 55 advocates and elected officials were arrested at the state capitol for engaging in civil disobedience to demand stronger rent laws.
Tenants associations and housing justice groups are organizing free buses from New York City to Albany tomorrow. You still have time to join them.
