New Economy Project works to create the institutions, policies and public support needed for a new economy.
We currently lead campaigns to:
PROMOTE Community Land Trusts
New Economy Project is actively engaged in community education, legal and policy advocacy, and coalition-building to promote community land trusts (CLTs) and community-led housing and neighborhood development.
As a founding member of the NYC Community Land Initiative, New Economy Project is working with allies to foster CLTs in New York, including a demonstration project in East Harlem. By removing housing and land from speculative markets, we seek to address root causes of displacement, segregation and homelessness, and preserve the right of low-income people to live in the city.New Economy Project is actively engaged in community education, legal and policy advocacy, and coalition-building to promote CLTs and community-led housing and neighborhood development.
New Economy Project supports worker, housing and financial cooperatives in NYC. We press for public support and investment in cooperatives, through policy advocacy and community education, and as a member of worker cooperative coalitions. We also provide capacity-building training and financial support to cooperatives and other community-based enterprises, through the New Economy Loan Fund.
